I have a brand new gorgeous website, time to put my feet up; job done! Wrong. Job just starting. If you are a business owner, what was your reason for having a website? To attract new custom and turn current customers into returning customers. You aren’t going to achieve this by setting your new site live and sitting back. If you do you’ll be sitting back and watching your potential customers go somewhere else which will be to a business that puts some love, care and not a little time into keeping the site up to date not only with relevant quality content but up to date in technical terms and in terms of security.
A PRETTY WEBSITE IS NOT A “SILVER BULLET” FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Take advantage of social media platforms out there to promote your business. Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Instagram to name a few. Set up feeds to automatically post to such platforms when you update your business site with a new article / product or event. It also allows for some personal discourse when you can reply to potential customers when they message you.
Remember, a stagnant site and one that is falling being technically is going to have a poor level of traffic because the site is going to suffer in search engine rankings and have a huge bounce rate. Whats a bounce rate? That’s when a possible customer visits your site and for one of many reasons ( lets say, slow loading times, or its not responsive to his mobile that they are viewing you from, or they cant immediately find what they are looking for, or they see old products and a 90’s design then they “bounce”. They leave your site and go and trade with a rival business of yours who have put the time in to attract and keep visitors on their site. (I’m actually being optimistic that they came to your site in the first place because chances are they went to your rival business as they are ranking higher than you due to the fact that they are giving their business site the care and attention it deserves.)
