You should already have a mobile / tablet responsive website for your business right……right? If not, read on. If you don’t have a responsive design you are running the risk of losing potential business mainly because visitors will lose patience trying to scroll their way around your site on their mobile. You have a few seconds to impress them so don’t end up simply annoying them.
More importantly, coming soon from Google will be a clearly defined label on search results as to whether the site is mobile friendly or not. If it isn’t, it will be flagged accordingly and at least you wont have to worry about annoying your visitors anymore – because they more than likely won’t bother clicking on you in the first place if you are not mobile friendly. Your click through rate will plummet.
We see these labels as a first step in helping mobile users to have a better mobile web experience. We are also experimenting with using the mobile-friendly criteria as a ranking signal.
The new labeling system should be rolled out in the coming weeks so if you are not mobile / tablet friendly at the minute – get a move on and make your site responsive. If you are not sure whether your site is or not simply use Google’s Mobile Friendly Test Tool.
